Gagne Skates Today, Updates Status

gagsSimon Gagne skated for the first time today at the Flyers Skate Zone since injuring his groin at Team Canada’s orientation last month.

Gagne skated very lightly while taking many shots with and without a net. The longest tenured Philadelphia athlete spoke to the media afterwards to update his injury status.

“I was a little bit nervous when I went out there today, but I’m very happy with the way things went,” Gagne said.

“The first step was to skate by myself and see how it goes, and from there we’re going to decide what’s going to be the best for me. I don’t know if tomorrow I’m going to skate with the guys, or if it would be smarter if I do another skate by myself and then Thursday jump into it with the guys and scrimmage or practice.”

The main goal for Gagne remains to be ready for the beginning of Flyers training camp on September 13th. This skating session gave the veteran winger a lot of confidence on achieving that mindset, as he enters his 10th NHL season, all with the orange and black.

“That’s why I’m here trying to skate and we’re going to go step-by-step,” he said. “I hope to be there for Day 1 but at the same time we’re going to be smart about it,” Gagne added.
