Flyers Play Host Tonight, Gagne To Make Debut

gagsThe Flyers will host their first preseason home game tonight when they faceoff against the Detroit Red Wings from the Wachovia Center at 7pm.

The most important storyline heading into the this game is the preseason debut of Flyers winger Simon Gagne, who suffered a slight groin strain last month at Team Canada’s Olympic orientation camp.

“It will be a big test, but I’m confident that the way I feel on the ice now, I’m going to be fine,” Gagne said.

“Whatever I went through during the Orientation camp is pretty much gone. “I’m pushing myself harder and harder each practice,” he said.

Gagne, 29, skated hard yesterday during practice and was paired with Mike Richards and James van Riemsdyk.

“I still have to deal with some stiffness, but I think that’s more from the hip surgery this summer. You can do a lot of things when you practice, but you can’t push yourself like when you play in a game. I am confident  that its going to be fine.”

The Flyers will obviously monitor his play throughout the entire game. Another player who will be watched with binoculars will be James van Riemsdyk who has been outstanding so far through the teams first three exhibition games. Look for JVR to get significant playing time against the Wings.

Flyers fans will get all they can ask for out of Ray Emery tonight. Emery will play the entire game between the pipes.

Tonight’ game will be broadcasted on the Comcast Network and LIVE on 610WIP starting at 7pm.
