Pyorala Nets OT Winner, Emery Proves Worth

display_image_GYI0058451403Coming off the heels of an impressive 5-2 win over the Red Wings Tues night, the Flyers fired back with an OT win against the Devils.

Mika Pyorala scored the game-winner 1:45 into overtime from a pretty setup by Danny Briere to sink the Devils. The goal was Pyorala’s second in as many games.

Flyers goaltender Ray Emery was stellar in the net once again. Stopping 31 of 32 New Jersey shots.

It took over 11 minutes for the Flyers to notch the first goal of the game as Matt Carle delivered a rifle-like snapshot from the point on the powerplay.

There wasn’t another goal until the 8:17 mark of the third period when the Devils Matt Halischuk scored his first of the preseason.

If there is such thing as a preseason all-star, that nod should go straight to new goaltender Ray Emery. The about-to-turn 27-year-old goalie has put together back-to-back outstanding performances in net for the Flyers.

Emery stopped 28 shots against Detroit then came right back with 31 saves versus the New Jersey Devils.

There might not be a quicker more agile goaltender in the NHL: than Emery. Post-to-post he is lightning quick. Emery looks to be primed for a special season as Philadelphia’s starting netminder.

Danny Briere had two assists. He now has five points in his last 3 games….Simon Gagne extended his minutes last night. Gags played over 19 minutes, he said his game is getting better everyday.
