The last meeting between the FLYERS and Ducks happened last season.  Philadelphia was on the better part of that game winning in a shootout 5-4 in Anaheim. This is the first and only meeting between these two teams this year tonight.

The first period ended with the Flyers leading 1-0.

The Flyers took the lead with a power play blast from Mike Richards at 5:29, Claude Giroux and Simon Gagne with the assist. That was Richards’ NHL leading sixth goal of the season.

Two penalties occurred during the period, one for each team. Flyers led the period with 14 shots, while the Ducks only rendered seven.

The second period brought birthday wishes to Chris Pronger. Pronger, who celebrates his 35th today netted his first goal as Flyer came just about 14 minutes in. Matt Carle and Carter contributed with the assists.

A lot of highlights though provided by Flyers goaltender Ray Emery. Emery had at least five spectacular pad saves on the Ducks while facing 14 shots. One close call came on the Ducks power play when Evgeny Artyukhin rung a slapper of the right side post.

Matt Carle’s assist on Pronger’s goal was his seventh assist on the season.

The Ducks out-shot the Flyers 14-10.

The Ducks got one on the board with a goal by Teemu Selanne at 13:16, Ryan Witney notched the assist. Selanne’s third cut the Flyers lead down to one with just about six minutes to go.

With 3:40 left in regulation the Flyers gained a power play on an Anaheim interference penalty. The Flyers came close a few times, but couldn’t cash in.

With 16 seconds to go Teemu Selanne tied the game up at two apiece. His 116th career multi-goal game.

End of Regulation. The Ducks outshot the Flyers in the third 8-7.

Mike Richards almost singlehandedly won the game for Philadelphia but Jonas Hiller made a nice shoulder pad save. The Flyers defense had a little relapse with under a minute to play in the overtime period, but managed to control the puck to force a shootout.
