Flyers-Penguins Game Preview

Thanks to Brian Biddle for his contributions to this article.

The Philadelphia Flyers head into the hallowed halls of the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh to faceoff against their hated division rival Penguins.

Last 10 Flyers (15-15-1) are (3-7-0) after a win last night over the Bruins and the Penguins (22-10-1) are hot going  (7-2-1)

This is the second meeting for these two teams where Pittsburg took the 1st 5-4 on October 8th in Philly.

It doesn’t get any easier for The Flyers for they are going against a high-powered offense. They are adding on to it with the return of Chris Kunitz.

“I was really glad to see us respond the way we did in the third period,” he said. “I thought we really played a terrific period from start to finish. I thought we skated, I thought we possessed the puck, I thought we shot and looked for offense, we didn’t sit back when we got the goal. It’s what we needed.”  said coach  Peter Laviolette.

The Penguins have had a nice break playing only 2  games in the past 7 days. So, if the Flyers can get an early jump and strike first it will help to make the Pens play catch-up.

“It’s nice to have the whole group here back at it,” captain Sidney Crosby said after Saturday’s shootout win against Florida. “When guys come back sometimes it takes time, but we’re a pretty familiar group of guys here.”

Players to watch: Obviously, Sidney Crosby who has 10 goals and 7 assists in his last 10 games. For the Flyers, Brian Boucher who is only 2-2-0 since Ray Emery’s injury but has a G.A.A   2.03

Pittsburg has the 2nd to worst powerplay percentage  in the NHL this season at 13.6 percent.

Jeff Carter has 15 points, 6 goals and 9 assists in his last nine games against the Penguins. It would be an extreme positive if Carter can contribute points in this game. His performance is pivotal.

Crosby has 46 points in his career against the Flyers which are tied for the most points in his career against any opponent (46 vs. NYI).

what are we going to do ,no defense, hartnell taking dumb penalties and no scoring i’m really worried about this team and i bleed orange and black

  2. Hey, thanks for the read and comment.

They need a lot right now. Most of all-confidence and heart. I believe either Hartnell or Carter have to be shopped. I say Carter because your going to get the most for him. You can;t drop JVR or Giroux unless the Thrashers want them for Kovi. Then YES! Dumb penalties have to stop. Im not sure if there as bad as of late; however, still detrimental.
